| A Naked Advertisements Experiment
Last summer at FKK Upstate NY we decided to attempt a cross cultural ( nudie / non-nudie ) experiment.
So the nude advertising experiment we decided to attempt is public marketing of the event. We took two types of fliers out and went door to door (Main Street companies) to sp read them. One flier had a nudie group pic of 50 bare participants from last year's event. Another flier had only text describing the event in general terms, and a line at the bottom explaining that it'd be held at a nudist park. We solicited passersby and went to three types of establishments and asked permission to exhibit the fliers in their stores / places of business. As well as the random passers-by, the three sorts of companies approached were:
These farms commonly have significantly more than a hundred families and individuals who visit weekly. They are like mini-communities. They're usually of an alternative, more liberal mindset compared to the general public. Lots of nuts and yogurt' bunch, and granola heads, etc.
3) Decidedly alternative, or hippie stores, visited by well . . . Largely hippies, or alternate sorts.
Nude Advertising & Promotion Naturism
The reactions were enormously different and a bit surprising. It was as if they hadn't ever heard of naturism at all, and the thought of nudity place them ill at ease. http://fillingmachine.us/__media__/js/netsoltrademark.php?d=nudism.name 'd not display the flier with nudity for fear of backlash from parents / kids. They declared most individuals would be open to it, but they only feared the ten percent that would not. It'd be bad for business.
But when presented with the text-based flyer - no bare picture - they were very open and I 'd no trouble getting five flyers into mainstream / road stores for display - even when I certainly clarified it was a NATURIST event. I got a lot of smiles, friendly responses, and immediate alliance.
Passersby on the road - I just approached them naturally and confidently. http://web.exiang.org/blog/go.asp?url=http://ournudism.com said, Here is something you may be interested in - it is our yearly unclothed stock!' I was met with friendly smiles, chuckles, and more general interest than disbelief. I discovered that my self-confidence was matched with a positive outcome. Folks normally thanked me for the advice, and signaled they'd really consider it and maybe attend. Would they? Maybe some will later on. Certainly next time they encounter something to do with naturism they will remember a positive, assured dialog, and thereby hopefully be more open.
Eventually, as one would expect, all the hippie / option institutions agreed without hesitation to show the flier with the unclothed picture. One man even said, "That Is how I prefer to be [naked] . . ." Actually they all did!
Well, what did we learn from this little exercise? First a disclaimer - my sample set was not enormous - so figures are out of the question. Yet, sociologically speaking it was a valuable learning experience, and fun. Below are some decisions:
1) don't be scared to speak openly and confidently about naturism. Most individuals, even if surprised, settle down and are astonishingly OPEN. If you're confident, and signify naturism as the healthy standard and interesting action it is, they're going to resonate with the exact same openness. Should you be tentative, timid, fearful, or appear embarrassed they WOn't accept naturism. It's funny, because as a farmer and horse proprietor I can tell you it's the exact same with your livestock. If you ride your horse with panic the horse is scared and spooky.
2) As I address in my fourth sex positive site, "in your face" activism is scary, even shocking, and offensive to many. They need the choice and freedom to decide how they would like to see and respond to nudity - they don't want it shoved inside their faces. If you give them that option (fliers without nude photos) they're open, and you've got a terrific potential for winning them over. If you attempt to force nudity, (photographs or perhaps live, in the incorrect circumstance), you get a BUNCH more resistance, and perhaps you are turning people away. Recall, folks need the same choice you desire - no one likes to be pulled against their will to anything, particularly if it is as sensitive as nudity.
3) In my first sex-positive blog I talked about nudie/non-nudie, dialog as "cross cultural." There is no consistent "mainstream America." http://fearfactor.com/__media__/js/netsoltrademark.php?d=nude-beach.net consists of unending ethnic niches. One must learn to identify them and customize the way we present naturism and nudity to them, as a way to gain more people for naturism. A "one size fits all" strategy just isn't proper. The hippie / alternate institutions responded very differently than the usual retail outlet, or CSA, aimed at the public. In like fashion it is distinct being bare in Central Park vs. Wall Street. We can do lots of good, or a lot of damage, by the way we "read" the cultural market we're addressing.
http://celebrityplasticpics.com/__media__/js/netsoltrademark.php?d=wnude.com hope these ideas encourage one to be more active in gaining individuals for naturism, and help you think about how you do it, so as to be most effective. A lot of this is based on the theory' I am laying out in my own sex positive blogs, so check those out - they'll help put more context to this discussion, and future blogs I 'm planning.
FKK Upstate NY will be attending the Northeast Naturist Festival and doing a workshop again in 2013. The festival will take place from July 29 - August 3, 2014 at Empire Haven in Moravia, Nyc.
